Comedy Awards Galore!!!

The king of comedies is back again. I am talking about the TN government giving away State Awards for films released in 2006 and 2005(!!!) As usual, every actor and actress in the film industry has been conferred with some award.

Who ever runs the government, always the State Awards are the most funniest ones. I guess, the problem is not with the government but with the "eminent" jury that comprises of Mohan, director S.P. Muthuraman, Sivakumar, Charuhaasan, Deva, and Sripriya .

The presence of Sivakumar has been very efficient, as he has made sure that Ghajini bagged as much awards as possible in 2005 and Paruthiveeran got early awards for 2006, while lot many good films have released before that.

Now lets have a look at the comedy awards of 2005:

Best Storywriter

Karu Pazhaniappan (Sathurangam)

Award for a film that never released in theatres and no one has seen what it is all about.

Character Artiste

Rajkiran (Male) (Sandai Kozhi

An award for a film, for which he doesn't get any good reviews. Thavamaai Thavamirundhu was his best performance in that year.

Best Actor

Rajnikanth (Chandramukhi)

Agreed he is the superstar, but an award for a performance that was not very great even in his own standards and that was not even comparable to Vikram's in Anniyan?? And wat the hell, Vikram doesn't even have an award in special award category!!!

2006's awards are more hilarious:

Best Storywriter

Perarasu (Thirupathy)

Best Actor

Kamal Haasan (Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu)

Even most Kamal's fans felt it was not the best of him. He deserved an award for much better films!!

Best Film

Second: Paruthiveeran

Best Actor (Special Prize)

Karthi (Paruthiveeran)

Best Actress

Priya Mani (Paruthiveeran)

Awards for 2006 to a film that released in 2007??

Finally this is the ultimate!!!

Best Villain

Pasupathy (E)

My God!! Pasupathy had a positive role in "E" that no where is in the villain genre. Aasish Vidhyaarthi was the villan of E!!

The review of "E" says: "As usual Ashish Vidyarthy plays a baddie. A tailor-made role for him, which he does with aplomb. But the pick of the movie is Pasupathy, who launches a crusade against poor Indians being made 'Guinea Pigs' by international pharmaceutical firms. He even lays down his life for the cause. His role is very powerful and potent."

God knows what the jury saw in any of the films!!!

Back to Books!!

I was staying away from books for a long time due to some kind of laziness towards reading and a feeling that I cannot comprehend English as fast as I could do Tamil text.

Recently, I got two books one out of my own interest and other, my friend's recommendation. I started reading them and I should say that I thoroughly enjoyed them. I like books that has a good narrative writing, in a way that I can imagine or visualize each and every scene written. Both the books had this quality and that is what impressed me the most.

The first one was my friend's recommendation, "The curious incident of the dog in the night-time" by Mark Haddon. A simple story that beautifully brings out the complicated feelings of a spastic boy, Christopher, and how he unwraps the murder mystery of a dog in his neighborhood, told from the view point of the special child. During the investigation, he discovers a number of truths about himself and his own family. There is an element of suspense and what-next that the author maintains till the last chapter. Talking about the chapters, they are numbered as 2,3,5,7,11... Yes, as prime numbers. And the book talks about lots of maths, science and puzzles, as Christopher is damn intelligent. :-)

The next one was "The Guide" by R.K.Narayan, quite an old book, but I wanted to read for a long time. I have seen the movie once but don't remember much of it, though I was told that it was a complete drift away from the book. For those who don't know, its about Raju, a simple guy, who changes shades from an innocent boy to a school drop out, to a shop keeper, then a tourist guide who tactically takes away a dancer Rosie from her boring husband, does all gimmicks to make her a dancer and earn money through her, gets caught for a document forgery and finally lands up in jail. Upon his release, without his own will, people make him a saint and what follows up is narrated with humor.

Had a good time pass for past few days with books once again. After all, my English comprehension is not as bad as I thought it to be :P
